Following the recent news of plans by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to issue new Naira notes, First Bank of Nigeria has announced that some of its branches will be opening on Saturdays to serve customers who want to deposit old currency notes.

In a mail sent to customers on Friday, November 4, 2022,  titled “Get Ready for the New Nara Notes”, First Bank Nigeria said the aim of opening on Saturdays was to enable its customers to make deposits of old naira currency notes in their possession to avoid being cut with the deadline set by the CBN.

The apex bank recently announced that it will redesign N200, N500, and N1,000 notes and phase out the existing ones. It said the new Naira notes will come into circulation from 15 December 2022, while the existing ones will cease being legal tenders from January 31, 2023.
