Presenting the award, Managing Director of Transgreen Nigeria Limited, Mr Cyprian Orakpo, said it is a token of their appreciation of the need to take healthcare seriously.

The factory, which is the first of its kind in Lagos State, is designed to produce high-quality, sterile syringes that meet international standards.  It has the capacity to produce millions of syringes per annum, which will not only meet the local demand but also contribute to exports.

Mr Orakpo said the company currently produces 5ml, 2ml and 10ml, adding that their next line of expansion is to start producing 1ml which is mostly used for vaccination.

He also disclosed that the company intends to go into production of other medical consumables as part of efforts to boost medical security and enhance the nation’s capacity to respond to public health emergencies such as the one that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic when the country became vulnerable due to reliance on importation as the supply chain was disrupted.

“We also hope to go into other medical consumables in Lagos State because we have discovered that medical security is something that we must face so that we will be well prepared for any emergency that may arise at any time,” Orakpo stated.

Earlier in his welcome address, Orakpo expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed in various ways to make the project a successful one.

He called for more partnership between Lagos State Government and local manufacturers by patronizing Made in Nigeria goods, especially health-related products.

According to him, “The sterility of imported syringes for example cannot be guaranteed as some of them might have been produced at facilities that don’t observe the industry best practices or outside regulatory supervisions, unlike locally manufactured syringes under the regulation of NAFDAC.”

In response, the Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the commissioning ceremony by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, commended Orakpo for his vision, resilience and entrepreneurial spirit that led to the establishment of the factory.

He noted that the company’s vision aligns with the Lagos State agenda on healthcare.

He reassured that the state would continue to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and support initiatives that advance healthcare and drive economic growth.
