OpenAI has launched ChatGPT-4o, a new and improved version of its artificial intelligence model, ChatGPT-4.
The company promises to make it available to all users for free, with the goal of putting AI tools in the hands of everyone. ChatGPT-4o boasts faster and cheaper capabilities, handling text and audio in 50 languages, with voice and video features to be released in the coming weeks.
According to OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, the company’s mission is to make AI accessible to everyone, without ads or extra charges. Altman believes that by providing free and outstanding AI services, OpenAI will enable people to create amazing things that benefit humanity.
“the best model in the world available for free in ChatGPT, without ads or anything like that.”
“Our initial conception when we started OpenAI was that we’d create AI and use it to create all sorts of benefits for the world. Instead, it now looks like we’ll create AI and then other people will use it to create all sorts of amazing things that we all benefit from. “We are a business and will find plenty of things to charge for, and that will help us provide free, outstanding AI service to (hopefully) billions of people,” Altman wrote.
“The new voice (and video) mode is the best computing interface I’ve ever used. It feels like AI from the movies; and it’s still a bit surprising to me that it’s real. Getting to human-level response times and expressiveness turns out to be a big change,” the OpenAI CEO added.
While the company will find ways to charge for certain services, its primary focus is on making AI available to billions of people.
ChatGPT-4o is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, with human-level response times and expressiveness. The new voice and video mode is described as the best compute interface, feeling like AI from the movies. The original ChatGPT has already shown the potential of language interfaces, and ChatGPT-4o takes it to the next level.
OpenAI’s decision to make ChatGPT-4o available for free may indicate a shift in focus from profit to providing AI for the benefit of humanity. This move comes after billionaire Elon Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, claiming that the company has deviated from its original mission as a non-profit organization. Musk, who co-founded and backed OpenAI, alleges that the company’s founders promised to make its technology freely available to the public.
The launch of ChatGPT-4o comes a day before Google’s I/O developer conference, where the tech giant is expected to unveil more AI updates. The move by OpenAI may be seen as a competitive gesture, as the AI space continues to evolve and expand.
In conclusion, OpenAI’s ChatGPT-4o represents a significant milestone in AI development, making advanced language models accessible to everyone.
As AI technology continues to advance, it will be interesting to see how companies like OpenAI and Google navigate the competitive landscape while prioritizing the benefits of AI for humanity.
