An update from the SS Napoli’s medical doctor on the facial injury sustained by Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been a positive one ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs next month.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelDoctor Gianpaolo Tartaro on Wednesday has expressed his elation with the speed of Osimhen’s recovery and admitted that the former Weder Bremen talisman could soon be able to play without using a face mask.
Osimhen sustained a severe facial injury when he collided with Milan Skriniar in their 3-2 loss to Inter Milan in the Serie A last November.
The 23-year-old underwent an operation and was ruled out of action for two to three months.
However, the Napoli striker’s time on the sidelines was cut short after a face mask was designed for him.
He also missed out on Nigeria’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations after the club expressed their dismay as the player flew back to Nigeria where he tested positive for Coronavirus.
“Osimhen no longer has scarring or swelling, his biological response to the fractures is better than expected,” Doctor Tartaro told Calcio Napoli as per Radio Kiss Kiss.
“Every time, he manages to recover quicker than we thought.”
“He also stated that a lighter mask had been designed for Osimehn because of his improved condition.”
“From today, we have started to reduce the protective mask he will already wear with Venezia. Fortunately, the supports on which we have downloaded can be modified because the callus has formed.”
“We have also listened to his requests to open the view a little. We have enlarged his eyeball, both the upper and lower part.”
The Nigerian played 20 minutes of action two weeks ago in Napoli’s 2-0 victory over Bologna.
“Surely, the mask gives him some difficulty but is the only thing that allows him to play.”
Osimhen is definitely a sure bet to play for the Super Eagles in Nigeria’s double header against Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs barring any injury setback.
