The late president had disclosed his battle with cancer, sparking concern among the public. Despite his planned return from US treatment on February 2nd, fate had a different plan.

Geingob, who took office in 2015 and was in his final term, had previously overcome prostate cancer and underwent an aortic operation last year.

As Namibia faces the void left by Geingob’s demise, the upcoming November elections take on added significance.

The Swapo party, in power since independence, has nominated Mrs. Nandi-Ndaitwah as its presidential candidate.

Namibia could witness a historic shift, with Mrs. Nandi-Ndaitwah potentially becoming the country’s first female president if successful in the forthcoming elections.

The nation grapples with both sorrow and anticipation as it navigates a pivotal moment in its political landscape.
