Vice President Shettima’s Surprising Revelation
Vice President Kashim Shettima has stirred discussions by claiming that his house in Maiduguri is better than President Bola Tinubu’s famous Bourdillon residence in Lagos.
Speaking at the launch of a book titled Navigating the Politics of Universal Education Policies in Nigeria in Abuja, Shettima downplayed the grandeur of Tinubu’s home, stating, “There was nothing special about the President’s Bourdillon house. My house in Maiduguri is better than the house in Bourdillon.”

Shettima, addressing the audience at the event, emphasised the importance of Nigerians rallying around President Tinubu as he undertakes the daunting task of addressing the country’s socio-political, economic, and security challenges.
“In President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we have a leader that we can invest our trust in. I’m not playing politics; I’m speaking from the heart,” he asserted.
The Vice President elaborated on his first visit to Tinubu’s Bourdillon home, admitting he expected something grandiose.
“The first time I went to his house at Bourdillon, I was looking forward to seeing a mansion comparable to Buckingham Palace, with gardens, and swimming pools, but there was nothing special about that house. My house in Maiduguri is better than the house in Bourdillon,” Shettima recounted.
A Leader Beyond Material Wealth
Shettima’s remarks were not just about houses but also about Tinubu’s character and leadership style. He portrayed Tinubu as a man of modest means who is not driven by material wealth.
“Since I have known him, he has been using only one wristwatch, and in fact, I dress better than him. He doesn’t even care,” Shettima said, painting a picture of a leader who has “overcome all those odds to dress well” but remains focused on the country’s progress.

The President’s Vision for Nigeria
Shettima reiterated the need for Nigerians to support Tinubu, especially in light of the tough decisions the President has made to steer the country back on track.
“He is the most demonised politician in Nigeria. He is in power to leave landmarks in the sands of time. The economy that we met was in a huge mess,” Shettima noted.
He acknowledged the challenges inherited from the previous administration, but he insisted that Tinubu’s bold measures would yield positive results.
“The President had the courage, the political courage, and the willpower to take far-reaching decisions, and it always comes at a price. The economy is now on a path to sustained growth,” he added.
A Call for Support
Shettima concluded his remarks with a heartfelt plea for unity and support for the President. “I want to ask all of us to rally around this poor man. He has made far-reaching decisions, and the economy, we have crossed the river. The economy is now on a path to sustained growth. The security issues will be addressed, and rest assured that in the coming months, Nigerians will see a sea of change in their fortunes.”
The event, attended by notable figures including Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Chief Bisi Akande, and Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, served as a platform for Shettima to reinforce the administration’s commitment to addressing the nation’s challenges, urging the populace to remain patient and supportive as the benefits of the current policies become evident.
In a closing note, Shettima expressed his concern over the years of neglect in basic education across northern Nigeria, pointing to the involvement of underage children in recent nationwide protests as a sign of deeper societal issues. “This is a reflection of the breakdown of family values and a dysfunctional family system,” he lamented.
With these bold statements, Vice President Shettima has not only sparked debate but also highlighted the complexities of leadership in Nigeria, urging citizens to look beyond the surface and focus on the long-term goals of the nation.
