The disruption stems from damage to vital undersea cables, impacting connectivity for millions of users. According to MTN Group, the disruption is a result of breaks in multiple major undersea cables, causing widespread service outages. The telco giant issued a statement emphasizing its commitment to resolving the issue promptly.

This cable, acclaimed as the longest underwater cable globally, extends across three continents and traverses 33 countries, notably several in Africa. With landing stations in Lagos and Akwa Ibom, ‘2Africa’ aimed to revolutionize connectivity across the region.
MTN reassured its customers of ongoing efforts to mitigate the impact of the disruption. The company is actively rerouting traffic through alternative network paths and collaborating with consortium partners to expedite the repair process for the damaged cables.
