Staring: Clint Eastwood (blondie) the good. Lee Van Cliff ( angel eyes) the bad . Elli Wallac ( tucco) the bad.

In the 1960’s the above was released and till date it remains a classic good reigning over evil and everything in-between. It has simple plot about three men – Clint Eastwood (as ‘The Good’), Elli Wallac (as the ‘Ugly’), and ‘The Bad’ was played by Lee Van Cliff.

The story line was spread across these three main characters. Just three main characters!

With Nigeria on my mind, I think of who would have played ‘The Good,’ ‘The Bad’, or ‘The Ugly’ if a movie of that genre were to be produced? Really sad to say! But, as the days go by, I realize there are a lot more variations of Nigerians than that movie would dare to capture. Certainly not three!
For the purpose of this article, I could attempt a few; you are free to add to the variations.

1 The Naturally very bad people:

These refuse to let go of tribalism and ethnic sentiments – hating everything that stands for the greater good. I could go on and on in my analysis of these folks. They are also very “educated” and you wonder where the education went to.

2 The silent selfish and comfortable ones who look the other way: These ones are in the majority of those that actually have the voice and muscle to steer this country to greatness. Alas they are comfortable and choose to remain silent and look the other way. So long as their families and businesses are still fine and their standard of living has not been inconveniently adjusted downwards.

3 The Insanely Greedy People:

These ones have access to the the wealth of all but are busy stashing their private stalls. Everything is theirs for the taking and they certainly take no prisoners in the act.

4 The Densely Ignorant People:

Certainly, the first 3 categories of people fall into this group, because only ignorance would make them feel their state will last forever and the country will survive on such parasitic tendencies. However, there are people who are genuinely densely ignorant of the whole mess the nation is in, thanks to the next group.

5 The Misinformers:

The job of this category of Nigerians is to constantly misinform and confuse the populace, just for the unbridled exploitation to continue.

6 Finally, The Good-natured Peace-loving, Honest Nigerians:

These lot are more than the other groups but have fewer access to insane funds. Those are the ones ready for the real change in Nigeria. The want good governance, good leadership. They were otherwise passive in political affairs but have woken up now and I hope it’s not too late in the day.

There are a lot more variations of Nigerians and I am actually working on a musical of these crazy characters in our history, the present… and (hope not) the future.

It certainly won’t be just three characters. So, move over:  The Good. The Bad. The Ugly. The Nigerians are here.
