MOK Foundation Installs Solar Street Lights In Owode Market, Offa

People in Owode market Offa, Kwara State on Tuesday, July 25, expressed joy as MOK (Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode) Foundation donated five solar-powered streetlights.

Owode market, which is the biggest market in Offa, a popular town in Kwara State attracts traders from neighbouring villages to sell their wares and stay for a couple of days.

MOK Foundation Installs Solar Street Lights In Owode Market, Offa

Unfortunately, the market has been bedeviled by miscreants who come to steal the wares of traders causing untold hardship.

The ugly development incident, prompted MOK Foundation to embark on the project of installing five solar-powered streetlights as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility activities to light up the market at night and make it difficult for the thieves to continue stealing.

Founder of the MOK Foundation, Alhaji Muhydeen Okunlola Kayode, said that as an NGO that focuses on social impact projects, it was moved by the need to boost security in the market and mitigate the challenges faced by traders as a result of constant stealing of their goods by thieves.

Kayode, who was represented by Mr. Saheed Lawal at the event to mark the installation of the street lights, said: “as a non-governmental organisation, we saddle ourselves with many interventional projects for the betterment of the people. We have many projects from health to agriculture, to education and commerce so as to encourage small scale businesses.”

“The installation of the solar-powered street lights in Owode market was inspired by security consciousness. MOK Foundation moved to ameliorate the condition of the traders and end the nefarious activities of thieves at the market by installing streetlights for them.

“We are fulfilled helping the community around us and our people showed gratitude towards the project,”  he said.

He appealed to the governments at all levels to extend energy supply to underserved and off-grid communities.

Mr. Sarafadeen Afolabi who spoke on behalf of the Owode Market Association was very grateful for the project and prayed for more blessings to the Foundation.

Alhaji Muhydeen Okunlola is known for his philanthropy and improving the plight of the people in Kwara State.
