In a surprising turn of events, Migos, the renowned hip-hop group, delivered an unexpected and emotional performance at the 2023 BET Awards on Sunday night.

Fans who had been uncertain about the group’s future following the tragic death of cofounder Takeoff were treated to a memorable reunion as Quavo and Offset took the stage together.

The show took a suspenseful break, and as the curtain rose on a dimly lit stage, two silhouetted figures emerged. It quickly became apparent that the figures were Quavo and Offset, standing before a backdrop featuring the Space Shuttle.

The crowd erupted with excitement as a recording of Takeoff’s verse on the song “Hotel Lobby” played, highlighting his musical legacy alongside Quavo as Unc & Phew.

The announcer shouted, “BET! Doin’ this for Take!” The Space Shuttle image soared into the sky, replaced by a picture of Takeoff with his hand reaching upward, and the duo launched into their chart-topping hit, “Bad & Boujee.”

The surprise reunion caught many off guard, as just two days prior, both Quavo and Offset had been sharing photos from their time in Paris, giving no indication of an imminent performance.

In a recent Variety cover story, Offset became visibly emotional when discussing his late friend, whose life was tragically cut short as an innocent bystander in a shooting outside a Houston bowling alley in November of the previous year, according to police reports.

Quavo, Takeoff’s uncle despite being only three years older, seemed to have closed the chapter on Migos in his tribute song “Greatness,” stating, “Don’t ask about the group / He gone, we gone / It can’t come back.”

However, immediately following their electrifying performance, Offset took to Instagram to express his motivation, writing, “Do this shit for the fam cuz this shit bigger than me,” while Quavo paid homage to Takeoff, also known as “Rocket,” and shared photos of their reunion.

Both Quavo and Offset are preparing to release new albums this summer, adding further anticipation and excitement among their dedicated fan base.

During the interview for his Variety cover story, Offset offered a glimpse into his upcoming projects, giving the publication an exclusive preview of several tracks.
