Manchester City have reminded dare-devil racists that there is no room for such behaviour, following abuse directed at Manchester City ladies star Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw.

Jamaica international Shaw, was subjected to racial abuse after City’s Women’s Super League defeat against Arsenal at the Joie Stadium on Sunday.

Shaw, who has scored 86 goals for the club, made her 100th City appearance when she came off the bench in the 66th minute of the match in what was only her second outing since suffering an injury early in December.

Shaw who has scored 57 goals in 44 appearances for The Reggae Girlz of Jamaica, joined Manchester City in 2021 from Bordeaux after scoring 32 goals in 35 appearances for the French side.

Manchester City have not only vowed to battle the abusers head on, but have promptly reported the matter to the police.

City have promised to fully support the player over “the disgusting treatment” she received in the aftermath of the 4-3 loss to the Gunners at the Joie Stadium.

In a statement released by the club, City said: “Manchester City were appalled to learn that Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw was subjected to racist and misogynistic abuse following Sunday’s fixture.

“Discrimination of any kind, either in stadiums or online, will not be tolerated and has absolutely no place inside or outside the game.

“Bunny has decided not to share the messages publicly so as not to give the oxygen of publicity to the vile individuals who sent them.

“The content has been shared with the authorities. An investigation will follow, and the club offers our full support to Bunny following the disgusting treatment she’s received.”

On the pitch, the last few days could be said to be nightmarish for Manchester City at all fronts.

Aside from Manchester City men losing 5-1 to their Arsenal counterparts at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, Manchester City Ladies equally lost 4-3 to their Arsenal counterparts in what some City fans have described as double tragedy and lamentation Sunday.

Interestingly Arsenal Ladies while still basking in the euphoria of their victory will face Manchester City again on Thursday night (7pm), but this time it will be at Mangata Pay UK Stadium in Borehamwood for the semi-final of the Subway Women’s League Cup.

Man City ladies fans will no doubt be looking forward to a table turning outing.
