Man City Back In Top Four, Compounds Leicester City’s Woes

Manchester City added to the pains of relegation hunted Leicester City with a 2-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

The match had hardly entered the second minute before Jack Grealish shot Manchester City into the lead with a timely assist from Brazil international Savinho.

Omar Marmoush increased the tally for Man City in the 29th minute thus handing the homers 2-0 lead at the end of the first 45 minutes.

The second half of the game however produced no further goals for either side. The victory did not only improve Manchester City’s standing on the log with 51 points in 30 matches, but also saw the reigning League champions move into the top four.

Leicester, meanwhile, are on a seven-game losing streak without scoring as they remain 12 points from safety, and have Newcastle United next. Despite the defeat Leicester City’s defender Wilfred Ndidi who was in action for the entire duration of the match, got impressive rating. Some analyst believe he is one player that deserves to remain in the top flight amid Leicester City’s woes.

While the Foxes are battling against relegation, table toppers Liverpool consolidated their hold at the top with a lone goal victory over Everton same Wednesday night.

Diogo Jota’s 57th minute goal was all that was needed to hand title chasing Reds maximum three points, taking their standing to 73 points in 30 matches.

In other matches played Wednesday, Ipswich Town shocked Bournemouth 2-1 at home, just days after they suffered defeat by the same margin to Manchester City to crash out of the FA Cup.

Aston Villa got the better part of Brighton thanks to a 3-0 win just like they did against Preston North End to zoom into the semi-final of the FA Cup.

Chelsea who were edged out of the top four following Manchester City’s win over the Foxes, will attempt to bounce back when they welcome Tottenham later tonight at the Stamford Bridge.

As the London rivals meet tonight, Chelsea will be hoping to repeat their success from the last Premier League meeting, a 4-3 victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December.

Cole Palmer led the Blues with two goals, scoring in the 61st and 84th minute. Jadon Sancho and Enzo Fernández also were on target. Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski, and Son Heung-Min were on the scoresheet for Spurs.

Chelsea have got the better of Tottenham of late with wins in three straight encounters, dating to November 2023. The Blues during that period have outscored Spurs with 10 goals for and four against.

Palmer has caught the eye for Chelsea this season. The attacking midfielder is their leading scorer with 14 goals.

Visitors Tottenham have been helped by Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, and Son, who have netted nine, nine, and seven times, respectively.

In their last six league matches, Chelsea have won three and lost three, while  Tottenham have won three, drawn one and lost two.
