Makinde Provides Update On Ibadan Explosion’s Hospitalized Victims

In a recent update on the tragic explosion that rocked the Adeyi area of Old Bodija in Ibadan, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has shared encouraging news about the recovery of victims.

According to the governor, over 90 percent of those affected by the incident have been discharged from hospitals. Governor Makinde expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between residents and security operatives during this challenging time.

In a statement released on Sunday via his social media handle, he acknowledged the efforts of security agencies in maintaining law and order in the Bodija area. The ongoing investigation into the Dejo Oyelese Street explosion, which claimed the lives of five individuals, continues to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The medical team at the Emergency Operations Centre, along with the Honourable Commissioner for Health, visited hospitals where victims were admitted.

Governor Makinde revealed that the majority of the victims, amounting to over 90 percent, have successfully undergone treatment and been discharged.

The death toll currently stands at five persons, and the security agencies are diligently working on the case, with updates on their findings expected to be made public.

To provide support to those affected, the governor disclosed that counseling services have commenced at the Emergency Operations Centre in Ibadan.

Simultaneously, structural integrity tests are being conducted on approximately 230 properties in the vicinity of the blast site. This includes 13 houses within a 50-meter radius, 40 houses at a 100-meter radius, 122 houses at a 200-meter radius, and 53 houses within a 250-meter radius.

Governor Makinde expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Society of Engineers and his Lagos State counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for their assistance during this challenging period.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting all victims and ensuring that those responsible for the incident are held accountable.

Heartbreaking stories have emerged from the incident, with reports of casualties and survivors recounting their harrowing experiences. BON Hotel Nest Ibadan confirmed the passing of its operations manager, Tunde Solomon, due to a heart attack linked to the explosion. Meanwhile, a 27-year-old survivor, Oluwatobiloba Alao, is recovering from memory loss caused by the attack.

One survivor, Mr. Abiola AbduIsalam, shared his daring escape by jumping from a storey building on Dejo Oyelese Street to save his life. As the investigations and recovery efforts continue, the people of Ibadan remain resilient in the face of this tragic event.
