The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has fixed July 12 for local government elections in the state.
This was confirmed in a statement on Saturday, 12 April 2025, by Tope Ojo, Head of Public Affairs, LASIEC.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelAccording to Ojo, the electoral exercise will be conducted for 57 chairmanship and 376 councillor seats across the 20 local government areas and 37 LCDAs in the state.
Ojo said elections into the offices of chairman, vice-chairman, and councillors in all the LGAs and LCDAs in the state would hold on the same day.
According to the election timetable signed by LASIEC Chairman, Hon. Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, there will be a meeting with political parties on Tuesday, 15 April, and publication of election guidelines by the Commission on Thursday, 17 April 2025.
Campaigns by political parties will commence on Friday, 18 April, while the conduct of party primaries will be on Saturday, 19 April.
The collection of nomination forms by political parties and submission will be between 22 and 28 April.

The LASIEC chairman assured that there will be a fair process for all parties and reiterated the electoral body’s commitment to conducting a free, fair and credible election.
Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, a retired justice, urged political parties and candidates to adhere to the regulations, and guidelines for the election and strictly follow the electoral timetable.
