National chairman of Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure has stated that the party leadership fully endorsed the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Council members unveiled on Wednesday, October 12, 2022.

The party held a world press conference on Wednesday where it announced members of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation. The list shows that Dr. Doyin Okupe remains the director general of the campaign organisation. The party also appointed zonal and state coordinators for the six geo-political zones and 36 states of the Federation respectively, as well as directors/heads of various units, to manage activities during the campaign period.

The Labour Party publicity secretary, Hon. Arabambi Abayomi was, however, quoted as saying that some members of the party were not involved in the process of selection of the campaign council members.

Abayomi, in a message, to a reporter’s enquiry said, “We are not involved in Dr Okupe’ mischievous political shenanigans”

He reportedly alleged that the composition of the campaign council was skewed to exclude some parts of the country, insisting that the campaign organization’s DG ought to go to the North East or North Central part of Nigeria and that the party is not a sectional one.

“Our presidential candidate is a pan-Nigerian. How can we have a presidential candidate from the South and the campaign DG coming from the same South,” Abayomi said.

Reacting, to Abayomi’s outburst, Abure said the statement of the party publicity secretary did not emanate from the party.

He said the party  fully endorsed the list and was duly represented at the press conference.

“Kindly disregard the statement as it does not emanate from the leadership of the party,” Abure stated.

“It is important to let our esteemed friends of the media to know that the leadership of the party fully endorsed the media outing of Peter Obi campaign council. The party was fully consulted and was fully represented by a good number of our National Working Committee led by the National Secretary.

“There is therefore no rift between the party and the presidential campaign council as it’s being speculated in some quarters. Kindly disregard such fake stories as it is the imagination of our political traducers.

“Both the party and the PCC are united in enthroning a leadership that will salvage the nation and restore the lost glory of our Fatherland,” LP national chairman added.
