27 Ways To End Nigeria's Poverty Trap, By Kingsley Moghalu

Former Deputy Governor of Nigeria’s central  bank, author and aspirant to the country’s Presidency in 2023, Professor Kingsley Moghalu, in a no-holds-barred interview with Prime Business Africa on Monday evening, blamed collapse of true federalism  on successive military administrations since independence in 1960, and the collapse of good governance on ‘experienced’ politicians.

Responding to a number of questions regarding his aspiration to govern Nigeria and why technocrats seem not to have had a smooth ride in politics since 1999, Professor Moghalu  said that the much-touted ‘experience’ in Nigerian politics is overrated, wondering what it has achieved for the country in the last 23 years.

‘’Nigeria needs a leader with a sound economic vision and capacity to drive it at a political level,’’ he added, explaining that he has been transparent about his  aspiration to provide leadership to the country.

“Experience in Nigerian politics is overrated. What has it achieved for us in the past 23 years. The mess  we find ourselves in today was created by “experienced” politicians,’’ Moghalu said.

According to him, the ‘’worship of politics without governance is what has destroyed Nigeria. Of course, we need good political leadership, but how we define it is the problem.

‘’We need politicians who are visionary, who have the character, capacity and competence to develop our society and make life better for the average Nigerian. That requires strong experience and skills in things like the economy, nation-building which involves managing diversity and building strong institutions, and then foreign affairs and international relations’’
