Junior Pope: Family Mourns As Actor Is Laid To Rest

The Nollywood community is mourning the loss of beloved actor John Odonwodo,  known as Junior Pope, who was laid to rest after passing away at the age of 43.

Videos and images shared on social media on May 17, 2024, captured the funeral service held at St. Peter’s Catholic Parish in Ukehe, Enugu State. The actor’s wife, draped in black, and their three young sons were visibly grief-stricken, with the youngest child attempting to console his mother.

Junior Pope’s final resting place is in his hometown of Uwala Abaka, Ukehe, located in Nsukka, Igboetiti Local Government Area of Enugu State. His untimely death on April 10 happened during a tragic boat accident on the Anam River in Anambra State, which also claimed the lives of four other individuals. The group was returning from a movie shoot when the boat capsized.

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) responded by suspending the production of the movie “The Other Side of Life,” produced by Adamma Luke, which Junior Pope was working on at the time of the incident. In addition, the AGN has placed an indefinite ban on filming in riverine areas due to safety concerns.

“Following the tragic incident of a boat mishap that claimed the life of Junior Pope and three other crew members, all films that involve riverine areas and boat riding are hereby suspended indefinitely.”
