On Thursday, April 18, 2024, news alleging the arrest of Nigerian DJ, Obianuju Catherine Udeh, popularly known as DJ Switch hit social media. Contrary to these claims, DJ Switch took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify that these reports were entirely false.
In her statement, DJ Switch expressed her surprise at waking up to a flood of calls and messages, initially thinking it might be her birthday due to the unexpected attention. She refuted the allegations that she had assaulted a female police officer at a police station, emphasizing her stance against violence towards law enforcement.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command of the Police, later issued a clarification. He admitted to inadvertently misleading the gossip blog, stating that it was actually DJ Commissioner Wysei, not DJ Switch, who had been arrested. “Apologies for any inconvenience caused to the media outfits,” he added.

Despite the clarification, DJ Switch expressed her intention to take legal action against the blogs that propagated the false news. She criticized the media for their rush to publish without proper verification, highlighting the dangers of such irresponsible reporting.
“Our blogs seem to have an insatiable appetite for traffic, often neglecting the due diligence required to verify the accuracy of the news they disseminate. This kind of false reporting not only harms individuals but also skews public perception,” DJ Switch commented.
She further elaborated on the damaging effect of such misinformation, lamenting the readiness of some to believe negative narratives about her. “Many seem eager to paint me as someone I’m not, suggesting I’ve sacrificed my hard-earned reputation to undermine Nigeria. This is unequivocally false,” she stated.
Concluding her post, DJ Switch urged the blogs to retract their false reports and issue corrections by the end of the day. She emphasized that her primary goal was not publicity or clout but genuine accountability from media outlets.
“These blogs have until the end of the day to remove their false stories and replace them with corrections. I am not seeking cheap publicity; I despise clout chasing. I could have pursued legal action immediately, which would have had significant consequences for them. So, I urge them to do the right thing and let’s all strive for accuracy and integrity in journalism,” she concluded.
