How To Apply For New Canadian Permanent Residency Permit

Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC), has announced two new pilot programmes designed to provide eligible caregivers with Permanent Residency (PR), upon their arrival.

These new initiatives, aim to attract international caregivers, to fill roles in the home care sector and offer an easier path to PR status.

The pilot programmes will enable home care workers, to find employment with organisations that offer temporary or part-time care for individuals, who are semi-independent or recovering from an injury or illness.

“As we work to implement a permanent caregivers programme, these two new pilots will not only improve support for caregivers but also provide families with the quality care they deserve,” said Minister Miller.

Guide To Applying For New Canadian Permanent Residency Permit

Foreigners wishing to work in Canada’s home care sector can apply through these pilot programmes if they meet the following criteria:

Achieve at least level four on the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB)

Have the equivalent of a Canadian High School Diploma

Possess recent and relevant work experience

Secure an offer for a full-time home care position

Further details will be provided before the full launch of these pilot programs.

Canada to Grant PR to 15,000 Caregivers During 2024-2026

The Canadian authorities have announced that over 15,000 caregivers will be granted permanent residency under the 2024-2026 Immigration Levels Plan. Since the launch of the Home Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot in 2019 until April 30, 2024, approximately 5,700 caregivers and their family members have obtained permanent residency. This new initiative is set to expand those numbers.
