Bill Lou, co-founder of Nest Wallet, a crypto startup dedicated to enhancing wallet security, has fallen victim to scammers, losing $125,000 while attempting to claim an airdrop.
Expressing his shock and devastation, Lou shared, “I just got scammed out of $125k of stEth while trying to claim the $LFG airdrop. And I’m a founder of a wallet startup that’s trying to improve wallet security.”
Join our WhatsApp ChannelRecounting how he got ensnared in the scam, Lou admitted, “I can’t believe this is happening. I saw an article guide to the airdrop and followed the link to sign a message. I didn’t even question it… It looked like such a simple message. It’s always someone else’s problem.”
Upon investigation, Lou discovered that the hacker not only swindled 66 ETH, including his 52, but also pilfered an additional 14 ETH (~$31k) from other victims.

Collaborating with @HackersResidue, Lou uncovered intriguing evidence, suggesting the operation was more elaborate than initially thought.
This unfortunate incident mirrors a broader trend in the crypto space. A report by Immunefi unveiled that in 2022, crypto investors globally lost $3.9 billion to hackers and fraudsters, a decrease from the $8.08 billion lost in 2021.
Despite this decline, scams persist, with specific projects like Ronin Network, BNB Chain, Wormhole, and FTX being notable victims of fraud.
Lou’s experience serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in safeguarding crypto assets and the imperative need for heightened vigilance in the ever-evolving landscape of digital finance.
