Nollywood actress, Caroline Hutchins Danjuma, has raised the alarm over skyrocketing food prices and current economic hardship in Nigeria.
The Nollywood star took to her Instagram page to reveal how she visited the popular Sunday market in Ogba, Lagos and noted how the price of food stuff has hit an all-time high.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelRecounting her ordeal, the thespian wondered how Nigerians are coping with the expensive food items, stressing that a tuber of yam is being sold at N10,000, a paint bucket of potatoes at N9,000, a bag of rice at N85,000, and two pieces of Titus fish at N5,000.
The Scottish-Nigerian actress, who has stared in over 20 films including “Deadly kiss” and The Journalist, expressed sadness over the situation adding that she had to shop for her domestic staff.
She wrote, “I went to Sunday market yesterday, I used to go there with my grandma, nostalgic. Hmmm. How are you all coping? A tuber of yam 10k, a small paint bucket of potatoes 9k, a bag of rice 85k, avocado pear 1k/1.5k (the woman wasn’t smiling before I asked for a discount). Two pieces of Titus Fish 5k. How are you all coping? I was soooo sad I started shopping for my domestic staff inclusive. How are you all coping? I wasn’t so keen on pricing in the market; I just felt bad for the masses.”

Danjuma who holds BSc degree in Geographical and Regional Planning from the University of Calabar among other qualifications, concluded her post with combination of consolation and prayer for Nigerians as the battle their challenges.

“Everything is expensive. It is well with us. Just want to take the time to check up on you all today. Maybe we need group sessions for mental and emotional therapy; I am willing to start it up with some of you… “Sending you all big hugs. The sun will soon shine on us all.”
Meanwhile professional Obianuju Catherine Udeh, popularly known as DJ Switch has told Nigerian youths to see the planned peaceful protest in August as another opportunity to save Nigeria.
She advised to youths to unite and discourage ethnic division being planted by the political class to dampen the planned “EndbadgovernanceinNigeria” protest.
Catherine argued that Nigeria’s political class would continue to mismanage the economy of the country until the citizens decide to save their country.
On Thursday, on her X, the songs-sound-maker explained that she wanted to remain silent on the planned protest, but her passion for Nigeria could not allow her.
“They say that there is a time for everything. A time to sleep, play, work, fight or die! Africa as a whole needs to know what fucking time it is!
“If you recognise what time it is, then you know what to do! Mind you, the cabals running Nigeria, Nigeria especially are smarter than you all might think. While they may be on edge about this planned protest, especially after seeing the events in Kenya, I promise you that they can bet their left balls that nothing will happen,” she said.
