Victor EzejaThe Nigerian government on Thursday unveiled centres for the conversion of petrol and diesel-powered commercial vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).
The government declared that it is going to be free of charge.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelProgramme Director/Chief Executive, Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, Michael Oluwagbemi, who made the disclosure after signing agreements with various companies involved in the conversion service, said commercial vehicle operators under different transport unions would benefit from scheme.
The PCNGI director said the gesture is to help transport operators who had lamented about high cost of conversion.
“What is the government doing about it? First and foremost, for commercial operators that are unionised, I’m talking about the members of RTEAN, NARTO, and NURTW, through their unions they can benefit 100 per cent discount. That is, they will get the kits for free and installation will also be done for them for free.
Oluwgbemi also revealed that ride-sharing companies made up the second category of commercial transporters to benefit from it.

He stated that implementation of the policy would lead a drastic reduction in what Nigerians pay for transportation services.
Prime Business Africa reports that CNG offers Nigerians less expensive alternative to the current fuel supplies.
