The former Minister who has seamlessly resumed legal practice after her exit cabinet following cabinet reshuffle told those who derive interest in abusing venerable ones in the society to be ready to face the wrath of the law as she is ready to pursue justice relentlessly for such victims.

Taking her X Kennedy-Ohaneye said “I remain committed to fighting for a better society. My passion for justice remains unwavering, and I will not tolerate any form of abuse, especially against vulnerable Nigerians, including children.
Today, I represented a heart-wrenching case involving a 5-year-old girl who was sexually abused by her class teacher. This incident strengthens my resolve to combat such heinous crimes.
To those who would dare perpetrate such atrocities, let this serve as a warning. I will pursue justice relentlessly in my capacity” addding #SayNoToSexualAbuse
Barrister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye who pursued issues aimed at eradicating gender-based violence (GBV) and enhancing women’s economic empowerment (WEE) in Nigeria during tenure as Minister also advocated for increased female representation in leadership roles and the implementation of the National Gender Policy.
The University of Nigeria Nsuka Alumna who held office as Minister of Affairs and Social Development from August 21 2023 to October 23 2024 is current President of Association of Nollywood Producers (ANP).
Kennedy-Ohanenye’s fight to the finish posture against gender based violence, sexual abuse and all manner of injustice, is not unconnected with the rising cases of the menace in the society.
Interestingly 25 November is commemorated globally as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), concluding on 10 December, the International Human Rights Day
According to World Health Organisation (WHO) Gender based violence manifests in various forms like intimate partner violence, early marriage and childbearing, workplace harassment, as well as digital violence. The body further submits that these incidences rise significantly during armed conflicts, disease outbreaks or natural hazards that lead to large scale displacement, people living in camps, and with limited mobility for women and girls.
Recall that Barrister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye during her days as minister was known for having zero tolerance for allocation of funds that projects that cannot impact directly on the people especially women and children describing such acts as “waste of money.
She warned then against using huge amount of money to organise seminars instead of using part of it to empower women.
