The Founding Partner of Future Africa and co-founder of Flutterwave, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, has revealed that he won’t be taking up a permanent government job if Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Tinubu, hands him an appointment.

Aboyeji, who founded two unicorns; Andela and Flutterwave, helped Tinubu develop his digital economy policy for his manifesto during the 2023 Presidential election.

Due to the role he played and his public declaration of support for Tinubu, whose victory is still being contested by Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar at the election tribunal, expectations have piled up that Aboyeji could earn a place in Tinubu’s administration.

While he shut down any expectation of quitting the private sector for a permanent job in the public sector, Aboyeji said he will only be opened to an advisory role.

He made this known while answering questions on Tuesday, 16 May, on social media platform, Twitter, with one enquiring about his future in Tinubu’s government.

According to the venture capitalist, the reason for his refusal of a full-time position in government is due to his long-term commitment to Future Africa.

“Yes I contributed to the digital economy policy. No, I’m unlikely to take a full time govt role because I have a long term commitment to @anafricanfuture but yes I expect to help as much as I can in an advisory capacity whenever I am summoned,” Aboyeji wrote.

When he was quizzed further, Aboyeji said: “It’s unlikely I’m asked but just as unlikely I’m in a position to accept but I have made up my mind to work very hard for the success of the country and the new govt.”

Aboyeji is a leader in the tech industry in Nigeria, having led the first Nigerian-owned fintech, Flutterwave, to unicorn status.

He has also come under criticism for supporting Tinubu, due to the economic downturn under the tenure of the All Progressive Congress (APC), the same party Tinubu belongs.
