In a significant stride toward enhancing education in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria, FIST Africa and the Madiba Foundation for Good Governance have united forces to uplift LEA Primary School in Kabusa, Abuja.

FIST Africa stands as a prominent organization dedicated to championing sustainable development initiatives across the African continent.

The Madiba Foundation is a pan-African non-governmental organization committed to promoting social equality in the developmental process for Africans.

The collaborative effort resulted in the donation of desks, chairs, whiteboards, and various teaching aids to the school, underscoring the organizations’ shared commitment to advancing education in the nation’s capital.

“Education is a fundamental right,” emphasized Elizabeth Fred-Adetiba, Executive Director of FIST Africa. “No child should be denied access to it due to financial constraints. FIST Africa is honored to collaborate with the Madiba Foundation for Good Governance to contribute to the betterment of LEA Primary School, Kabusa.”

This benevolent initiative was triggered by a prior visit from FIST Africa, during which the organization paid the school fees of nine underprivileged students.

Acknowledging school fees challenges, FIST Africa further demonstrated its dedication by adopting six children from the school and committing to covering their fees through university level.

Ozohu Otonoku, Programme Manager of Madiba Foundation for Good Governance, expressed the foundation’s pleasure in partnering with FIST Africa, stating, “Madiba Foundation is happy to collaborate with FIST Africa to support LEA Primary School, Kabusa, as part of the organization’s education intervention initiative.”

The headmaster of the school, Mr. Abubakar Mohammed, conveyed his gratitude to FIST Africa and the Madiba Foundation for their generosity. He reported that the pupils were ecstatic to receive the new furniture, which they had promptly started using.

However, Mr. Mohammed also highlighted persisting challenges faced by the school, including overcrowding and the absence of computers and photocopiers.

The donation of furniture and supplies marks the inaugural phase of a more extensive initiative by FIST Africa and the Madiba Foundation.

The subsequent phase involves conducting a needs assessment of all public primary schools in the FCT, with research already underway in 158 schools within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

With an eye on broader impact, the organizations aspire to garner additional support from partners and donors to extend interventions beyond Kabusa and encompass other schools in the FCT and across Nigeria.
