Federal Fire Service (FFS) and Federal Roads Safety Corps have entered into partnership aimed at eliminating fire-related crashes on Nigeria roads.
The partnership, which was formalised by the Corps Marshal, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed and the Controller-General, FFS, Olola Abdulganiyu, at the national headquarters of the Corps, marks a significant milestone in the quest to reduce the incidence of fire-related crashes on Nigerian roads.

This followed recurring cases of vehicle accident that resulted in fire outbreak on Nigerian roads. Last Saturday, a tanker ladden with petrol fell and cut fire after it lost control while descending a hilly section of Ugwu-onyeama in Enugu State. The incident led to death of about 20 persons, injured several others, while many vehicles got burnt. Also, another horrific tanker crash happened in Suleja, Niger State last two weeks which killed over 80 persons. The incidents have raised concerns about tanker safety on Nigerian roads.

The FRSC and FFS are joining forces to enhance response to fire-related crashes on Nigerian roads. Their joint training programme will focus on equipping personnel with skills and knowledge in fire prevention, fire fighting, and emergency response. The collaboration is part of efforts to improve response to fire-related emergencies on Nigerian roads. This collaboration aims to protect lives and properties.
The partnership will also enable both agencies to combine expertise and resources, reducing the risk of fire-related crashes and making roads safer. They plan to establish fire service points, train FRSC personnel in firefighting, and enhance overall response to emergencies.
Also there will be improved data sharing, joint enforcement patrol, conducting joint patrols to enforce, enhanced response times. This collaboration aims to make a significant impact on road safety in Nigeria, serving as a model for future interagency partnerships.
“In the wake of a number of road traffic crashes that resulted into fire outbreak in recent times, and the urgent need to bring the menace to an end, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Federal Fire Service (FFS) have entered into a historic partnership aimed at eliminating fire-related crashes on Nigerian roads,” FRSC stated in a post on its X handle.
It said that during the visit, the Controller-General noted that the Federal Fire Service is committed to protecting lives and properties, adding that the partnership “will enable the two services to respond more effectively to fire-related emergencies on the roads”
The FFS boss expressed optimism in the success of the partnership as he looks forward to working closely with the FRSC to achieve shared goals.
On his part, the Controller General, the Corps Marshal highlighted that the partnership is a testament to the Corps’ commitment to safety and determination to explore innovative solutions to the challenges facing the nation’s transportation sector.
The Corps Marshall, according to the statement, noted that by combining expertise and resources, the agencies can significantly reduce the risk of escalation of fire-related crashes and make the roads safer for all users.
