It was all smiles for former Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, as he grabbed his first victory of the season leading Garden City based Rivers United on Saturday.
Adopting a business minded approach, Rivers United handed visiting Heartland of Owerri a 3-1 defeat at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

The second half however became bumpy ride for the Nazi millionaires, as the homers killed the game after Kabiru Abdulahi grabbed a brace in the 68th minute and 4th minute of added time respectively. Statistics of the match indicate complete dominance of proceedings by Rivers United with 61% possession to Heartland’s 39%.
The Garden City landlords however took the lion share of fouls to the ratio of 19 to 14.
Recall that both coaches had locked horns in their quest to coach Super Eagles following the departure of Portuguese coach, Jose Pesseiro.

It was Finidi George that got the nod but the romance did not last after he lost to Benin Republic and drew with South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers and resigned afterwards as a result of the heat generated within and outside the Glass House by the result.
The former international did not have to stay out of job for long as he was immediately approached by Rivers United.
Recall that Rivers United drew their league opener 0-0 against Bendel Insurance.
Same cannot be said however of Heartland who have lost two matches by the same margin to Enyimba and Rivers United, conceding six goals and scoring two.
