FIFA Ranking: Super Eagles Move One Step Up Despite Draw Against Warriors

Super Eagles of Nigeria recorded one step upward move in the latest FIFA ranking released Thursday, despite below par performance against Warriors of Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifiers.

The Eagles earned a resounding win against Wasps of Rwanda in the double header qualifiers earning three points in the bargain but failed to fly past Warriors of Zimbabwe in Uyo, settling for a 1-1 draw against all permutations.

The four points helped Eagles earn a step up ranked 43rd in the world from their previous 44th position prior to the qualifiers.

The Eagles by the slight move have 1481.35 points up from 1482.23 points which implies that the team earned mere -0.88 added up.

World Cup Champions, Argentina, retained their number one position on the log with accumulating 1886.16 points an improved point from their previous 1867.25 points before the qualifiers meaning +18.91 add up.

Argentina won back to back victories over Uruguay and Brazil in the last qualifiers. In fact their 4-1 thrashing of Brazil forced the sacking of coach Dorival Junior even as Brazil have flagged off hunt for new coach to oversee the remaining qualifiers leading to the 2026 World Cup.

Spain, who won one of their matches and lost one, occupy the second position moving one point up, France went a step down after winning one match and losing one, while England occupy the fourth position with 1819.2 up from their previous 1813.81 meaning a +5.39 add up.

Brazil, despite the embarrassing loss to Argentina, are fifth in the world while Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Italy and Germany completes the top 10 in the world.

In Africa Morocco, who made it to the last four of the last World Cup in Qatar are number one in the continent.

The Atlas lions moved two points up while Senegal who are second on the log, moved two places down. Egypt, Algeria, Cote d Ivoire are third, fourth and fifth.

AFCON hosts and winners Cote d Ivoire moved up five places while Tunisia moved three places up. Tunisia, Cameroon, Mali and South Africa complete the top 10 in Africa.

The next FIFA ranking will be dished out in 98 days from now, on the 10th July, 2025.

Overall Myanmar recorded the biggest move with seven points up while Guinea-Bissau recorded the biggest drop of 8 steps down.

Bosnia and Hezegovina earned the highest point +24.16 while Iraq lost most points -29.46.
