The newly appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra State, Dr. Chioma Awuzie, has prohibited the spraying of cash and other forms of public display of wealth by students in the institution.
Dr Awuzie expressed concerns over the public display of wealth and vehicles on campus, especially by students, noting that such a trend has far-reaching negative implications on both the school environment and society generally.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelSpeaking during her inauguration ceremony which took place on Tuesday, 11 February, Dr Awuzie vowed to enforce strict measures to tackle all forms of vices perpetrated by students and also check behavioural conduct of staff.
She encouraged students to celebrate their graduation, birthdays, and other ceremonies on campus in a more dignified manner, instead of spraying cash and indulging in other unwholesome acts.
The new Rector promised to strengthen anticultism in the institution and prioritise staff welfare among others.
She said her administration will partner with law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders to monitor and combat threats posed by any clandestine group and ensure a safe, secure, and peaceful campus.
The new rector, who outlined her 12-point agenda for transforming the institution into a hub of technological creativity and innovation, stressed the need for collaboration and teamwork.

While reiterating her commitment to pursuing the institution’s founding vision, Awuzie called for unity of purpose and stakeholder support.
Prime Business Africa reports that Dr, Awuzie’s appointment as the sixth substantive rector of Oko Polytechnic was recently approved by President Bola Tinubu. Her appointment which is for a term of five years, took effect on 4th February 2025.
Being the second female rector and the first to be appointed from within the institution, Dr Awuzie promised that the institution’s staff’s well-being, education, and career advancement would be given top priority.

She declared: “We will cultivate an atmosphere of inclusivity, dignity, and efficiency, guaranteeing that each employee finds satisfaction in his position.” Awuzie started her teaching career at Federal Polytechnic Oko and rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology (Chemistry option) of the institution.
She holds a doctorate degree in Physical and Materials Chemistry and has held other administrative positions both in the school and elsewhere, including Head of the Department of Renewable Energy Research and Development and Director, International Higher Education Academic Organisations. Others are Coordinator, Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Director, Petroleum, Coal and Renewable Energy Research Unit; Director/Desk officer in charge of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) projects.
