‘Fast X’ has been dominating the Nigerian box office, raking in ₦32 million and maintaining its top position for three consecutive weeks.

Despite being released on May 19, 2023, the tenth instalment in the Fast and Furious franchise has accumulated an impressive ₦254.56 million in total earnings. However, the movie witnessed a 40% decline in ticket sales during the period of June 2-8, 2023.

Globally, ‘Fast X’ has been a massive success, surpassing $630 million in worldwide box office revenue. Fans have particularly praised Jason Momoa’s portrayal of the villain Dante Reyes, considering him the best antagonist in the franchise.

The film’s triumph has prompted the announcement of ‘Fast X: Part II,’ slated for release in the second quarter of 2025.

In second place, ‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse,’ an animated adventure from Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation, earned ₦28 million and a total of ₦45 million.

Disney’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ secured the third position with ₦18.6 million, accumulating a cumulative earning of ₦78.9 million.

The upcoming release of ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ on June 9, 2023, adds an exciting element to the box office race. It remains to be seen if ‘Fast X’ can maintain its lead against the highly anticipated Transformers film.

As of now, no Nollywood films have secured a spot in the top three. However, the industry hopes for a change with the imminent releases of ‘Big Love’ and AY’s ‘Almajiri,’ both expected to make a significant impact at the box office. Only time will reveal if these movies can shift the tide and bring Nollywood back into the top rankings.
