Former Federal Commissioner for Information and elder statesman, Edwin Clark, has died at the age of 97. His family confirmed his passing in a statement released on Monday night.

Family Announces Edwin Clark’s Death

The statement, signed by Prof. C. C. Clark on behalf of the family, announced the passing of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) leader. It reads: “The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark OFR, CON on Monday, 17th February 2025. The family appreciates your prayers at this time. Other details will be announced later by the family.”

A Major Loss to Nigeria

Edwin Clark was a key figure in Nigeria’s political history. He served as the Federal Commissioner for Information during the military era and remained an influential voice in the country’s affairs.

He was also a strong advocate for the rights of the Niger Delta region, leading PANDEF in its push for resource control and regional development.

Clark’s Death Follows Ayo Adebanjo’s Passing

His death comes just days after the passing of another nationalist, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, who died at 96. Both men were known for their advocacy on national issues and their roles in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
