Eko Bridge Set For 24-Hour Closure For Urgent Repair Works

In an effort to address immediate remedial issues, the Lagos State Government has declared the closure of Eko Bridge at the recently reopened Apongbon Bridge area for 24 hours on Sunday, July 16, 2023.

This decision was announced by Engr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, emphasizing the necessity of palliative works to be conducted in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.

The closure of Eko Bridge aims to facilitate uninterrupted palliative adjustments on the bridge, complementing the successful reopening of Apongbon Bridge. Toriola highlighted the significance of these repair works, ensuring the longevity and safety of the infrastructure for motorists and commuters alike.

To minimize disruptions and provide alternative routes for motorists, Toriola outlined various options for different travel directions.

Motorists traveling from the Mainland/Surulere to Lagos Island are advised to utilize Ijora-Olopa/Causeway, then proceed to Carter Bridge (Idumota) to reach their desired destinations. Alternatively, they can connect through Costain to Iganmu via Ijora-Oloye and Ijora Causeway to Carter Bridge (Idumota).

For motorists traveling from Lagos Island to Surulere/Mainland, the recommended route is to connect to Carter Bridge (Idumota) through Iddo/Oyingbo and then proceed to Herbert Macaulay for their desired destinations.

Another option is to connect to Eko Bridge through Ijora Olopa, passing by LAWMA Headquarters, and continue towards Costain/Alaka.

Furthermore, motorists have the choice to utilize the Third Mainland Bridge, passing through Adekunle, to connect to Herbert Macaulay for their desired destinations. These alternative routes aim to alleviate congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow during the repair period.

In anticipation of the increased traffic volume due to the closure, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has deployed personnel to manage and control traffic in strategic areas such as C.M.S, Marina, Ijora, and other alternative routes on Lagos Island and Mainland. Toriola urged road users to cooperate with traffic managers and follow their instructions to ensure a seamless commuting experience while minimizing disruptions.
