Former House of Representatives member, Chijioke Edoga has reacted to the Abuja Federal High Court ruling that nullified his candidacy of the Labour Party for the 2023 governorship election in Enugu State.

The court quashed the mandate on the ground that other LP governorship aspirants were unlawfully excluded in the primaries.

Justice Nkonye Evelyn Maha of the Abuja High Court while delivering judgment on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, on a suit filed by Evarest Nnaji, held that Labour Party failed to provide evidence of notice of the August 4 primary election which would have made all the governorship aspirants of the party participate in the election.
Justice Maha therefore, ordered that fresh governorship primary be conducted by the party to produce a candidate within 14 days.

Evarest Nnaji also known as Odengene, had approached the court to determine if his exclusion from the LP governorship primary election was unlawful or not.

Reacting to the court ruling, the spokesman for Chijioke Edeoga Campaign Organisation, Engr George Ugwu, in a statement said Edoga and his team remain resolute in defending the mandate of the people.

Ugwu said the team would refrain from commentaries capable of undermining the integrity of the courts and assured the supporters that the team would pursue the matter to the logical end with every legally possible means to defend the mandate and emancipate the people from the chokehold of poor governance.

Part of the statement reads, “As law-abiding citizens, we will refrain from commentaries capable of undermining the integrity of the courts, but we urge you to rest assured that we will do everything legally possible to defend this mandate.

“We also have, through the years, learned that nothing good in life ever comes easy. The finest of roses are usually found in the midst of thorns, and we are fully energised to find the roses of freedom and development for our people. We are fully aware of this and have prepared ourselves to weather every storm until our mission of people-centric governance is achieved for the people of Enugu State.”

“We are committed to carrying everyone along in this journey and will communicate to you, within the next 24 hours, the outcome of our deliberations.
“Again, we reiterate our commitment to work for the best interest of the people of Enugu as far as this matter is concerned and at all times, while assuring that we will not let you down,” Ugwu stated.
