Edo Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has berated the All Progressives Congress (APC) for resorting to spreading what it called “bare-faced lies” about activities of governance in the state.
In a statement signed by the party state acting publicity secretary, Dr Patrick Ojebuoboh, it said APC in its latest onslaught through the spokesperson, Peter Igbinigie, Esq, made spurious allegations laced with treachery, lies and propaganda against the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki and the People Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration, “in a desperate attempt to appeal to parochial sentiments and emotions.”
The party said APC had accused the Obaseki administration on issues bordering on security and anti-grazing law, Infrastructure and other developmental agenda, all in an attempt to bring the government down.

Commenting on the state’s commitment to security, Ojebuoboh said even though the state is not isolated from the general challenges of insecurity in the country, it has been investing heavily in protection of lives and properties through funding and incorporation of federal security agencies (police force, military and paramilitary agencies) and local security organisations into the state security architecture, while also carrying everybody along in the process of enshrining the anti-open grazing law.
“Edo State, today, enjoys one of the most pragmatic security structures that make ample provision for community ownership of the policing and intelligence gathering system. This fact is attested to by different stakeholders in the state, as there is a heightened sense of security with a good network of intelligence officers spread across the state,” Ojebuoboh stated.
On infrastructure, he said the state has prioritized investment in provision of basic amenities and erection of befitting public structures for the people.
“Obaseki-led government has attracted investment for constructing an ultramodern mall, in which ample provision is made for a befitting, bespoke library that would be the pride of all Edo people.”
APC Attack on MEGA Agenda
The PDP publicity secretary punctured the criticism of the APC on the Making Edo Great Again (MEGA) agenda, stating that people of the state are witnesses to positive outcomes of the initiative in the form of new businesses, in-flow of investment, better conditions for service in civil and public service in the state; a result-oriented education system, among others, which are benefits of the MEGA agenda.
He noted that the state is on the verge of of becoming self-sufficient in power generation with the successful completion of Ossiomo Power Project.
“Along with these, the state’s 30-year development plan provides a clear path for sustaining the reforms being implemented by the government.”
On the allegations made about the state government borrowing N7 billion loan, he said, “the allegation is a figment of the imagination of the party’s (APC) leadership.
“It is clear that APC has nothing to say but like the cock, it needed to crow so Edo people do not forget that it’s carcass is still in Edo State.”
