It is harvest time for Super Eagles as the team moved three steps up in the latest FIFA ranking.
After appearing to adopt 39th position as a permanent base for some time now, the Eagles finally advanced three steps forward to 36th position, thanks to impressive results recorded lately in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelThe move also saw the Eagles garner 1503.29 points as against previous 1498.02 points. Ranking and points are arrived at using the matches played by each country and also taking into consideration wins, loses and draw games.
A record 175 international matches were played across the globe this October. Nigeria however remained in the 4th position in Africa with Morocco leading the pack, followed by Senegal and Egypt. Algeria, in the 5th place completes the top five.
The top 10 in Africa includes Cote d’ Ivoire, Tunisia, Cameroon, Mali and Congo DR.
World cup winners Argentina remain unshaken at the summit of the FIFA ranking but with a narrow margin over France and Spain.
The top six teams remain unchanged, with England, Brazil, and Belgium holding onto their positions. Portugal and Italy made incremental gains, rising to seventh and ninth, respectively. Germany’s upward trajectory continues, now sitting just outside the top ten.

Apart from Nigeria, notable climbers in Africa include Algeria (37th , up 4), Peru (38th , up 5), Greece (42nd ,up 6), and Cameroon (49th , up 4). Others are Equatorial Guinea (88th , up 6), Zimbabwe (117th , up 7), The Gambia (128th , up 7), and Botswana (140th , up 7) made significant strides. Botswana’s 38.30-point jump was the largest overall.
Comoros Island reached their highest-ever ranking position (108th) after climbing ten places, alongside Sudan (110th).
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on November 28, 2024. Libya who are awaiting CAF verdict on their second leg AFCON qualifier against Nigeria are currently ranked 122 in the world and 34th in Africa.
The Eagles improved ranking is coming few days after the team’s market value equally improved to €281 million.
