Eagles Go To War Against Cheetahs, Target Three Points

Super Eagles interim coach, Austin Eguavoen, has set eyes on grabbing three points today against Cheetahs of Benin Republic at the Nest of Champions.

Eguavoen who gave the hint during a pre match briefing on Friday, said though Nigerians love the game and always want to win which mounts pressures, the team is not under pressure but will not underrate any opponent.

Describing the journey to Morocco 2025 as a long one, Eguavoen who is having full support of consortium of experienced assistants made of Rangers Coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu and his Remo Stars counterpart, Daniel Ogunmodede, said Eagles are equal to the task to successfully prosecute the double header against Benin and Rwanda respectively.

“Nigerians love the game and want to win, that is where the pressure comes but we are not under pressure, we are equal to the task and the target to earn the three points at stake,” he told NFF tv.

Captain of the team,William Troost-Ekong, said making it to the Morocco is a must task that must be done, he however said there are no guarantees of 100% win but added that the team will work very hard to ensure that good results are achieved.

He recalled how joyful Nigerians were just few months back following the performance of the team at the last AFCON, adding the team will take the games “one at a time” and give their best all the way.

Meanwhile, Cheetahs Captain, Steve Mounie, insists that the Cheetahs are fully prepared for the encounter against the Super Eagles of Nigeria. Mounie declared that the Gernot Rohr tutored side is determined to re-enact the now famous victory in Uyo, adding that the players need to fight to the finish in today’s encounter.

“At this moment, our team spirit is incredibly strong and resilient. We are not ones to give up easily. Together, we will display unity on the field, and that will be crucial in tomorrow’s game,” Mounie affirmed, during a press conference in Uyo on Friday.

He added, “It won’t matter who scores or provides the assist. The primary objective tomorrow is to attain a positive result.”

The Nigeria match against Benin Republic Clash is scheduled for 5pm.

In some of the qualifiers played on Friday, hosts of the AFCON 2025, Morrocco demolished Garbon 4-1, reigning champions, Cote d Ivoire, beat Zambia 2-0 while South Africa were forced to a 2-2 draw by Uganda at the Orlando Stadium in South Africa.
