D’Tigress Write President Buhari, Seeks End To International Ban

Players of the women’s national team of Nigeria have expressed their utmost disappointment in the Federal Government’s recent decision that placed a two-year ban on basketball activities on International competitions reports Prime Business Africa.

President Muhammadu Buhari last week announced that the country will be withdrawn from international competitions die to internal wrangling in the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF).

In a letter written by the team’s captain Adaora Elonu and to the Presidency

According to a letter written on behalf of D’Tigress team and signed by the team Captain, Adaora Elonu, the players started that they do not agree with the ban.

“This ban is taking away all our future competitions, accomplishments and goals to elevate, inspire and make Nigeria proud.” Egonu stated.

The winners of the last three Afrobasket for women 2017, 2019 and 2021 noted that at no time did they say they would never play for Nigeria.

The team were scheduled to represent Africa at the 2022 World Basketball Federation in September and October where they were expected to play against France, Serbia, Japan, Canada and Australia in Group B of the tournament.

Despite the Federal Government’s ban, the Federation of International Basketball on its official website still names Nigeria as one of the participating teams.
