Delta Govt Rewards Tanker Driver Otarigho With N2m

The Delta state government on Friday honoured the petrol tanker driver who averted calamity in Agbarho, Ugheli North Local Government Area on June 10, Prime Business Africa reports.

Ejiro Otarigho was behind the wheel of the burning tanker and showed examplary attribute when he avoided an inferno that could have killed dozens of people and destroyed properties by driving it to a bushpath safe from danger.

Receiving the heroic driver at the Delta State Government House in Asaba, Secretary to the State government, Patrick Ukah presented a plaque, a letter of commendation and a cheque of N2m to him.

“Today, on behalf of the state government, I present a letter of commendation, an award plaque and a cheque of Two Million Naira, to Mr. Ejiro Otarigho, a tanker driver, for his display of heroism and humanity as he drove a burning tanker away to a safe place where it exploded into an inferno last week in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area Delta State.

“We commend Mr. Otarigho for his bravery, patriotism, humanity and heroism for averting a major disaster that could have have resulted in the death of many persons and destruction of property in that area,” Ukah, media mogul and former Information and Education Commissioner in Delta state stressed.

Mr. Otarigho in an interview with an international media organisation monitored by Prime Business Africa before his presentation revealed that he had another occupant in the tanker whom he asked to run for his life.

A lady with a hilux jeep in close proximity had to abandon her car for her dear life albeit there was no harm to the vehicle eventually.

Otarigho further said that the parts of the burnt tanker had been dismantled.
