Umeh Nkechinyere, a sixteen-year-old student from Deeper Life High School, has achieved an extraordinary feat by emerging as the top scorer in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

With an impressive cumulative mark of 360, Nkechinyere has set a new standard of excellence for her peers. The announcement was made by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, during his presentation at the 2023 policy meeting held in Abuja on Saturday, 24th June 2023.

This gathering of heads of institutions serves as a platform to determine the minimum cut-off marks for admissions in 2023 and establish admission guidelines, alongside other crucial policy decisions.

Nkechinyere’s remarkable achievement was closely followed by Aguele Stephen and Ositade Oluwafemi, who both scored an outstanding 358. Gbolahan Ayinde secured an impressive 357, while John Fulfilment and Chimdubem Ugonna obtained commendable scores of 356 and 355, respectively.

These bright minds are a testament to the dedication and hard work exhibited by students across the nation. Additionally, Prof Oloyede highlighted the most sought-after universities for the 2023 UTME.

Topping the list was the University of Ilorin, renowned for its academic excellence, followed closely by the prestigious University of Lagos.

The inclusion of these institutions in the top ten was attributed to their significant appeal and high number of applicants during the 2023 UTME application period.

Other esteemed universities securing spots within the top ten are the Lagos State University in third place, the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti in fourth place, the University of Benin, the University of Nigeria, the Obafemi Awolowo University, the Nnamdi Azikwe University, the Nigerian Defence Academy, and the University of Ibadan.

These institutions’ consistent commitment to academic quality and research has solidified their positions as sought-after destinations for aspiring students.
