Award-winning musician, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has expressed his frustration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), regarding the Edo State governorship election.
Davido voiced his displeasure on social media, urging INEC to resolve ongoing issues that he said were negatively affecting the electoral process.
Join our WhatsApp Channel“Bruh, #inecnigeria fix up! We can’t continue like this… wtf,” Davido tweeted in a post directed at the commission. His remarks reflect concerns he has previously raised during the Osun State elections, where he was actively involved. The popular artist did not hesitate to link his involvement to his family roots in Edo. “My mum is from Edo, for those wondering why I’m interested in the election, but we as Nigerians should be concerned,” he added.
Davido’s frustration wasn’t just about his family’s connection to the state. He emphasized that the issues plaguing the Edo election reflect a broader problem in the electoral system. “I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us,” he added, calling for immediate improvements.

The controversy surrounding the Edo election gained further traction after Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba, in a televised interview, suggested that voters should return home after casting their votes. During an early morning interview with Channels Television, Mba urged Edo residents to fulfill their civic responsibilities and leave the polling stations immediately. “If you’re not accredited to participate in the election, you shouldn’t be out on the streets. Cast your vote and return home; it’s your civic duty,” Mba said, also highlighting a restriction on vehicular movement between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on election day.
Mba’s comment did not sit well with Davido, who quickly reacted on Twitter, questioning the idea that voters should vacate polling units after voting. In response to Mba’s statement, Davido wrote, “Loooooooool, go where???” suggesting that voters should stay at polling units to ensure transparency.
The Edo election had already been marred by reports of challenges. Faulty BVAS machines had disrupted voting in parts of Benin, causing delays and frustration among voters. Furthermore, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was actively on the lookout for vote-buyers at polling units, arresting several individuals in connection with such activities. Davido’s comments have added to the conversation, amplifying frustrations with the election process.
The Afrobeat star, known for his outspokenness on political matters, also used the opportunity to remind Nigerians of his previous involvement in the Osun State elections. His connection to Edo State, through his mother, further fuelled his interest in ensuring a fair process. “We as Nigerians should be concerned,” he said, reiterating his call for accountability from INEC.
As the Edo election unfolds, tensions remain high, with various incidents of disruption, vote-buying allegations, and dissatisfaction with the electoral process. Davido’s vocal involvement in the election reflects his ongoing commitment to transparency and fairness in Nigeria’s democratic processes. His statement serves as a reminder that celebrities can play a significant role in bringing attention to critical national issues, especially during times of political tension.
