Governor Chukwuma Soludo has said the newly constituted Board of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) will play a crucial role in setting the stage for the conduct of local government elections in the state.
Soludo stated this while inaugurating the ANSIEC Board members in Awka, the capital of the state on Wednesday.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelHe said the confirmation of the electoral commission members by the State Assembly paved the way for fulfilling one of the key promises he made to Anambra people.
The electoral commission is chaired by Magistrate Chinelo Genevieve Osakwe.

Other members of the commission include; WMrs. Bernardine Obande, Barr. Osita Cyril Igbokwe, Sir Chinedu Anthony Nnalue, Helen Ifeyinwa Umeh, and Mr. John Emeka Okeke.
In a post on Facebook, the governor said: “Today, I inaugurated the newly constituted Board of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) led by its Chairperson, Magistrate Chinelo Genevieve Osakwe.
“This team will play a crucial role in setting the stage for local government elections and ensuring the smooth, peaceful, and transparent conduct of polls in our beloved Anambra State.”
He highlighted the functions of the electoral commission to include organising, undertaking, and supervising all elections and matters pertaining to elections to the elective offices in the local government councils in the state.

While noting that the commission members have onerous tasks to carry out, Soludo charged them to set a date for the conduct of local government election in the state, adding that Anambra people are expecting them to deliver good results.
This development comes 10 years after the last local government elections was held in the state.
Past governors, including Soludo, have been appointing caretaker committee chairmen in each of the 21 local government areas for a specific period of time.
