Convener of the programme, Prof. Okigbo, in a statement he issued early Saturday,
Described the 2023 Presidential election as “the most consequential in Nigeria’s political history, because it is now a three-way race, with a third party favored to do better than expected, according to credible, respected, independent, international polls.”
According to Okigbo, as communication teachers and researchers, Nigerian communication experts are interested in this election campaign, especially the various uses of PR and Social Media – which may be the decisive factors in determining the eventual electoral outcomes this time.
He said today’s discussion will be one of the group’s Mixed Methods Research Designs for understanding the various uses of communication strategies and tactics in this election.
“Although our focus today is on Public Relations, our other seven (7) research teams will also benefit exceedingly. These research teams are on Print Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Social Media, Print and Broadcast Advertising, Outdoor Advertising, and Communication Effects.
“As convener, my main task is to bring you all – presenters and audience – together in this comfortable environment for a fruitful conversation.”
The consortium of communication experts disclosed that Prime Business Africa, the co-host of the virtual conference, will have its publisher, Dr Marcel Mbamalu, deliver the closing remarks after the discourse on the election campaigns.
