As Christians all over the world celebrate Christmas, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to imbibe the message of hope brought by the birth of Jesus Christ, in their daily dealings despite challenges in the country.

In a Christmas message released on Saturday, signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party urged Nigerians to use the occasion which marks the redemptive purpose of God to mankind, to rekindle their resolve to have a new nation with purposeful leadership in 2023.

The party expressed sadness that while people in other parts of the world where government care for its citizens, are celebrating Christmas with joy, Nigerians are marking the festivity with despair, caused by myriads of socio-economic and political challenges under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the country.

“The PDP is saddened that millions of Nigerians cannot afford the necessities to celebrate, many could not travel to meet with their loved ones due to economic hardship and those who did are facing harrowing life – discounting experiences, with several families stranded on the highways on account of dilapidated roads and worsening insecurity under the suffocating APC government.

“It is distressing that while people in other parts the world where governments care for citizens , are celebrating with joy, Nigerians are marking Christmas in utter despondency under the APC and its corruptleaders.

“More heartbreaking is the fact that Nigerians watch in despair as their purchasing power constantly fall due to the anti – people economic policies of the APC administration resulting in hyper – inflation and rapidly depreciating currency.”

It accused the APC-led government of worsening the economic challenges of the citizens, and urged the people to remain resolute in stamping out poor governance in 2023.

“Our Party urges Nigerians not to lose hope but use the occasion of Christmas, which marks the redemptive purpose of God towards mankind and our nation in particular to rekindle their resolve for a new dawn under a purposeful, caring and affectionate PDP leadership, come May 29, 2023.

“We must therefore leverage on the message of hope and God’s undying love which Christmas brings to bond together despite our challenges; show love, share with one another and maintain a united front in the mission to rescue our nation from the stranglehold of the APC.

“The PDP felicitates with Nigerians and wishes them Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year ahead.”
