China, Nigeria Diplomatic Relations Vital For Africa’s Development – Shettima

Nigeria’s Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has emphasised that the diplomatic relationship between China and Nigeria was very pivotal for Africa’s development and needs to be improved.

Shettima stated this on Tuesday, 17 October 2023, when he was hosted by China’s Vice President, Han Zheng, at the Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing, through his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha. He went to represent President Tinubu at the ongoing Belt and Road Initiative Forum.

He also said that President Tinubu’s government was doing its very best to improve diplomatic relations with foreign countries by strategically improving the country’s foreign policy in order to get more investors and boost their confidence too.

According to him, “Our mutually beneficial relationship will be further enhanced and upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership”.

“Nigeria is China’s second-largest trading partner in Africa; it is the largest economy in Africa and the most populous country in the African continent. The Belt and Road Initiative is a big, beautiful concept that can be deployed to achieve this.”

The VP also noted the expanding relationship between both countries, stating the mutual benefits that both countries stood to gain from their diplomatic relationship.

On the other hand, the Vice President of China, Zheng also assured Nigeria’s VP of continuous diplomatic relationships with the country, adding that his meeting with China’s President would encourage political mutual trust, improved practical cooperation and an improved relationship between both countries.
