CULTURAL Credibility Development Initiative (CCDI), a socio-cultural/political civil society organization, has called on the Minister of works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, to urgently carry out repair of Onitsha/Owerri road, particularly, Metallurgical junction, that is currently highly dilapidated.
The group stated this in an open letter addressed to the Minister of Works and Housing, on Tuesday September 21, 2021, titled “save our souls,” signed by it’s President, Chief Goddy Uwazuruike.
It said the road has become death trap to anyone plying it due to the poor condition.
Part of the letter reads, “Today, this road is a present and looming danger to anyone passing through it. In a sentence, the Onitsha-Owerri road has been divided into two. Need I remind the Hon Minister that this road is crucial to the network of roads leading to the Economic Golden Egg of Nigeria.”
The group further stated that many roads in Southeast have gone very bad and needs total rehabilitation as they highly affect transportation in the area.
“Your Excellency, we wish to inform you that the roads in Igboland are so dilapidated that road transportation has crumbled beyond description.
“As the Governor of Lagos State, you performed very well in the provision and maintenance of good roads. We believe that you can repeat this feat on Onitsha-Enugu road, Enugu-Port Harcourt Rd, Ihiala Mbano-Umuahia road, the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene road, the Aboh-Anioma roads, the Umuahia-Arochukwu road, the Uturu Afikpo road, the Owerri, Mbaise, Obowo roads, Aba-Ikot Ekpene road, the 9th Mile-Benue boarder road.”
It added, “Your Excellency, your good name will go down the drain if you do not urgently rise to the occasion.”
