Jennifer Enujiugha is unarguably one of Nigeria’s top rated plus sized models. The graduate of Crop Production from Abia State University was crowned Miss Curvy Nigeria Top Model some years ago.
In this interview with Prime Business Africa’s Izuchukwu Okosi, Enujiugha who is also a VJ, Event Management Consultant and choreographer speaks about plight of women in the society as mirrored in Simi’s latest music video ‘Woman’ which the beautiful model featured in.
You were in the video ‘Woman’ by Simi which highlights the plight of women and the stereotypes that women in the society face. What’s your opinion about the efforts made so far using different platforms to address these issues? Do you think that they have yielded the desired results?
I don’t have a fully formed opinion on the issue. However, I am aware of the stereotypes and the efforts made to address or re-dress them. It is a lot to unpack yet by reason of the popularity of the agenda to change the narrative, I think those efforts have come a long way to yielding their desired results.
You played a cameo role of a lady doctor in the video. Ever wanted to be one in real life? What’s your experiences like as a woman in the hospitals?
As a child, yes. I desired to be a doctor. I don’t visit hospitals frequently and so far haven’t had any hospital experiences where I was treated a certain way because of my gender.
You have been part of many fashion shows across Africa. The second edition of the Plusuncensored is coming up soon. You have also participated in a few other shows like that. What has been the biggest event you ever took part in in your modelling and what are the takeaways from them?
The biggest fashion event I have participated in is Arise Fashion Week. It has evolved from a non-existent state so far. It is not where it is supposed to be yet. Thankfully, though, it has the potential to be much more.
If I am to speak on behalf of my colleagues and myself, I say we look forward to a few years when the plus size fashion shows and the plus size fashion industry would have experienced exponential growth and demonstrate that anyone can be fashionable and stylish in any size.
Who has been your plus size modelling icon?
My plus size modelling icon is Ashley Graham. She is quite the inspiration. She’s a great plus size model and I have picked a few nuggets from her experience in the industry.
Thank you for your time and great wishes ahead of your next modelling event that you will take part in, The Plusunsensored, Season 2.
Thank you very much.
