Edo Queens desire to clinch Bronze medal by winning the third place match of this year’s CAF Women’s Champions league in Morocco hit the rocks with a bang on Friday.
Though the Nigerian representatives fought hard against their equally formidable Egyptian counterparts FC Masar, the encounter proved too tough for comfort ending goalless at the end of 90 minutes.
Join our WhatsApp ChannelThe resultant penalty shootout saw the Nigerian ladies loss 4-2. FC Masar successfully converted four of their five penalty kicks while Edo Queens missed two beginning with the first kick by Oluwatosin Mafisere. Chioma Olise who took the last kick equally missed.
As for FC Marsa, only Maya Abouelwafa who took the fourth kick when it was 3-3, missed.
By losing the 3rd place match Edo Queens failed to re-enact the achievement of Bayelsa Queens who won the third place in the 2022 edition.
Victory for the Egyptians ladies could pass for icing on the cake for the team who prior to their debut at the Champions league won two consecutive Egyptian Women’s Cup title.

Edo Queens had on their way to today’s 3rd place match sacked defending Champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa 2-1 before losing the semifinal 3-1 to TP Mazembe of DR Congo.
The tournament ends Saturday November 23 with FAR Rabat taking of TP Mazembe in what promises to be another tough encounter
The CAF Women’s Champions League was launched on 12 September 2020 but the edition was cancelled no thanks to Covid-19.
Subsequent editions in 2021, 2022 and 2023 however held successfully with Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa winning in 2021 after beating Hasaccas of Ghana 2-0. Their desire to win back to back in 2022 was truncated after losing 4-0 to FAR Rabat of Morocco.
Sundowns however bounced back to reclaim the title last year and perhaps would have played in another final this year if they had not been sent packing by Edo Queens.
Despite failing to clinch the third place, Edo Queens will take home $3,000 (about N510million) for their effort.
