Burkina Faso Acquires New Plane, Resumes Commercial Operation

Air Burkina, the national career of Burkina Faso resumed commercial operation this Wednesday October 2 2024. The inaugural flight Primebusiness.africa understands was made to Dakar with a stopover in Bamako, Mali.

The new high-performance Embraer E190 aircraft with six business class seats and 92 economy class seats was purchased at a cost of 65 billion CFA francs about $109.7million.

The aircraft purchased from China arrived Ouagadougou on September 28, 2024.

The purchase and launch of the new aircraft  is in line with desire of the country’s Military leader Ibrahim Traoré who came to power in September 2022 following a coup d’état that ousted interim president, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, to restore the country’s prestige.

At 36, Traoré is currently the youngest serving state leader in the world, and the youngest serving president.

Recall that a few  months ago, the Burkinabe company had announced the suspension of its flights for economic reasons

Burkinabes have been hailing the achievement of their young leader and his determination to re-position the landlocked West Africa nation with a population of approximately 23million people.

He championed the award of scholarships to talented students, as he called on his countrymen to support the idea to discourage the age long tendency of those he called imperialist to lure Burkinabes abroad through scholarship and they end up not returning to help the country.

Authorities say that Captain Ibrahim Taore has survived at least two coup attempts since coming to power in 2022 despite his efforts at taking the country to the next level through people oriented programme.
