BREAKING: Nigeria’s Lone Ranger Chukwuma Finally Bows Out

It is finally over for Nigeria in the women 100m event of the ongoing Olympics in Paris France after lone ranger Rosemary Chukwuma crashed out in the semifinal decided this Saturday evening.

Chukwuma finished in a time of 11.39sec behind Julien Alfred  of Saint Lusia who finished in 10.84s and S. Richardson who finished in 10.89  and G. Bass who failed to qualify after finishing in 11.10s.  Chukwuma’s 11.39s which did not guarantee qualification to the 100m final was a further downfall from her initial 11.26seconds which got her into the semifinal on Friday.

Only Alfred and Richardson qualified from heat 2 which featured Chukwuma, while Melissa Jefferson United States, Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith (Cote d Ivoire), and M. Kambundji qualified from heat 1.

Other finalists are T Clayton of Jamaica,D Nieta of Great Britain and T Terry of United States who qualified from heat three. The biggest shocker of the night was highly rated Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain who failed to qualify after finishing fifth with 11.10

Meanwhile Julien Alfred of St. Lucia clinched the 100m Gold few minutes ago. She brushed aside favourite Sha’Carri Richardson to win the Olympics women’s 100m gold medal Saturday evening etching her name into history to claim the Caribbean nation’s first ever medal at the Games.

Alfred ,who had never finished on the podium at a major outdoor championships prior to Saturday’s final posted a breath taking race to win in 10.72sec with Richardson taking silver in 10.87sec and compatriot Melissa Jefferson claiming bronze in 10.92sec.
