Falcons will be hoping to return to winning ways on Sunday, July 28, when they confront World Cup Champions, Spain, who began their own Olympic opener Thursday with a 2-1 victory over Japan.

In other matches played Thursday, reigning Olympic Champions Canada beat New Zealand 2-1.

The narrow margin of defeat suggests that the Super Falcons were competitive against a strong Brazilian side in parts, potentially providing some encouragement as they look ahead to their remaining group-stage matches in their quest for Olympic success.
